Tyee Road in the Umpqua area has re-opened after contractors and crews with Douglas County Public Works Department completed the clearing and mitigation of the massive rockfall that took place ten days ago.
Cody Smith from Public Works says the damaged roadway through the rockfall has been temporarily surfaced with crushed rock, and motorists are encouraged to use caution when driving through the site.
Smith says that additional work is planned for the site in the weeks to come, including the reconstruction of the damaged roadway and the placement of concrete barriers to try and catch smaller falling debris from the slope.
Cody Smith says the cost of the cleanup is still estimated to be around $120,000.
