The Eugene Airport management team will hold an Airport Master Plan Open House on Wednesday to give community members an opportunity to learn more about the plans for the future of EUG.
Assistant Airport Director Cathryn Stephens says the master plan is a comprehensive study of the Eugene Airport that will be used as a strategic planning tool. People who attend will hear about upcoming airport projects and future opportunities. Participants will also be able to provide feedback to airport staff and the consultants working on the plan.
The Federal Aviation Administration provides guidance for master plan development and funding through an Airport Improvement Program grant, according to Stephens. Several facility requirements for the airport have already been identified:
*Five additional aircraft parking positions for commercial aircraft.
*Additional concourse hold rooms to accommodate people getting on and off planes.
*Airfield safety improvements required by the FAA to meet modern design standards.
*Terminal area entrance road enhancements to improve safe vehicle and pedestrian movement.
*Additional parking and rental car spaces to meet community demand.
*Consolidation of general aviation facilities to improve efficiency and ensure a compatible airport operating environment.
*Preservation of strategic land locations to prepare for future demand for airport-specific facilities like hangars, charter passenger services, airport maintenance and aircraft fuel storage.
The Open House will be Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Airport Terminal Lobby. Parking in the short-term parking lot will be validated for free.
