Douglas County Clerk Patricia Hitt says the Oregon Secretary of State’s Office will provide a full outline to the process for replacing State Senator Jeff Kruse, on Wednesday.
Hitt says the general overview is that the Republican Party in the five counties represented by Kruse will choose no less than 3 and no more than 5 nominees that are willing to serve. The choices will then go to the County Commissioners in those counties, who will appoint someone to serve for the remainder of this year. The position will be on the ballot for the remainder of the two year term, this November. Douglas County has the most voters of any county in Senate District One, but residents in Curry County and parts of Coos, Josephine and Jackson counties have also been represented by Senator Kruse.
Kruse’s resignation becomes effective on Wednesday, according to Hitt, meaning he cannot change his mind and withdraw the resignation after 5:00 p.m. Tuesday. Kruse will leave office on March 15th.
