Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office are participating in the national “Click it or Ticket” campaign through February 18th.
Sergeant Brad O’Dell says deputies are working to increase proper seat belt and child car seat use during this time. O’Dell says the main emphasis during this enforcement blitz will be safety belts, child restraints, texting and speed.
In 2015, the use of seat belts in passenger vehicles saved nearly an estimated 14,000 lives of occupants ages 5 and older. The campaign focuses on safety education, strong laws, and law enforcement officers saving lives.
Fines for violating seat belt or child seat rules begin at $115.00
Funding for this enforcement campaign is paid for by the Oregon Department of Transportation, Traffic Safety Administration.
