SHOP WITH A COP IS THIS SATURDAY

December 6, 2017Kyle BaileyNews Radio 1240 KQEN Comments

December 6, 2017 11:00 a.m.

Law enforcement personnel from several agencies will be participating in Shop with a Cop this Saturday.

Community Outreach Coordinator Andrea Zielinski of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office says deputies and officers will be dashing down the aisles of Walmart to help provide a brighter holiday for some foster children in Douglas County.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, and departments in Roseburg, Sutherlin, Winston and Myrtle Creek will be taking part in the annual event. Zielinski says that twenty five foster children have been selected and will be paired up with a police officer and given money to buy Christmas gifts for their families.  The officers help the children pick out the gifts and then help wrap them. Before leaving the store, each child is given their own gift and a stocking that is filled.

Zielinski says she’d like to thank Walmart for hosting the event and Christmas for Kids Douglas County for making a $2,000 donation to help fund the program.

Shop with a Cop is also funded by local law enforcement employee donations and public donations.  Donations to sustain the program can be mailed to Douglas County Shop with a Cop, in care of Greater Douglas United Way, 702 Southeast Jackson in Roseburg, 97470.

Saturday’s event will run from 8:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
