The United Community Action Network Food Bank program is reviving the empty bowls project.
On Monday October 16th, the non-profit will have a special event at Phoenix Charter School. The evening will give people their choice of an artisan bowl to use to taste an array of signature soups made by some of Douglas County’s top restaurants and cooks, along with bread from the Lighthouse Center Bakery. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door.
UCAN Food Bank Manager Sarah McGregor says that with the Empty Bowls Project, the community is invited to consider how many of their friends and neighbors in Douglas County have empty bowls at mealtime. McGregor says that over 30,000 Douglas County residents utilize the Emergency Food Network by receiving a food box or a hot meal. Funds raised through the event will allow the Food Bank to continue its work. Since the UCAN Food Bank is part of the Oregon Food Bank Network, it has the purchasing power to obtain 4 pounds of food for every dollar donated.
