Airbnb facilities will have to pay the city’s hotel/motel tax under an ordinance being considered by the Roseburg City Council.
At Monday night’s meeting, Finance Director Ron Harker told councilors that staff has become aware that several facilities are now operating outside of city rules that levy a tax on those staying at hotels and motels in the city limits.
City Manager Lance Colley says the ordinance is being patterned after rules already in place in Bend. Ron Harker says the city is in conversations with Airbnb and is working on an agreement by which the company will start charging, collecting and remitting the tax to bring it into compliance.
Councilors had first reading of the ordinance Monday night. Second reading and final approval will come at a future council meeting.
