Applegate House Heritage Arts and Education will sponsor A Shin-Dig at the Charles Applegate House on Old Applegate Road in Yoncalla on Saturday September 30th.
During the week of September 24th, a University of Oregon Museum of Natural History team, led by archeologists Pat O’Grady and Chris Ruiz, along with historic preservationist Liz Carter, in partnership with Applegate House Heritage Arts and Education will conduct an archeological dig on a site near the Applegate House. At the culmination of the dig, the public is invited to a free event exploring the initial findings of that dig and an opportunity to learn about the process and hear from project leaders.
The Shin Dig includes a greeting and drumming by Native American drummers, tours of the Charles Applegate House at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m., tours of the archaeological site and an opportunity to see what was discovered and talk with those involved. There is a cost for the tours and admission is limited to 40 people per tour.
Indian fry bread and tacos, apple cider and pie and ice cream will be available for sale at the event. A performance by The Slow Ponies from 3:00 p.m.to 4:00 p.m. will close out the day.
