The Horse Prairie Fire is one of 15 large wildfires burning in Oregon currently.
Incident Commander Link Smith says there is a limited number of firefighting resources available to meet suppression objectives. He says while the fire now has over 900 people assigned, there continues to be a need for additional crews and engines. The fire remains around 7,400 acres and is 15% contained.
While the weather has moderated slightly, the fire remains active, according to Link Smith. He says an Excessive Heat Watch with temperatures around 100 degrees is expected over the weekend.
A Level 3 evacuation notification remains in place for the Lower Cow Creek Road from the end of County Maintenance to Union Creek, including residents living on Doe Creek Road. Two outbuildings in that area have been destroyed by the fire.
Road and area closures remain in effect in and around the fire area. The public is asked to stay clear of the area for their safety as well as for the safety of fire fighters.
