Fire managers from the Umpqua North Complex and staff from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office have raised the evacuation notice for the Slide Creek area on Highway 138 East.
Sergeant Brad O’Dell says the change is for people living between mile marker 53 and mile marker 56. The evacuation notice is now at a Level 2 “Set” Evacuation Notice going up from a Level 3 “Get Ready” Evacuation Notice.
Sergeant O’Dell says the Level 2 notices indicates that there is significant danger to the area, and residents should either voluntarily relocate to a shelter or with family and friends outside the fire area, or if they choose to stay at home, be ready to leave at a moment’s notice.
People in the Slide Creek area are urged to closely monitor the situation as the threat from the Happy Dog Fire is increasing as it approaches Highway 138 East once again. Sergeant O’Dell says it is important to be ready to leave “at a moment’s notice”.
That evacuation notice was issued Thursday at 1:00 p.m.
