Crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association and other agencies responded to fires both on Saturday and Sunday.
Kyle Reed of DFPA says that Saturday morning at about 11:20 a.m. DFPA crews and firefighters from the Riddle Volunteer Fire Department responded to a natural cover fire on the hillside behind D.R. Johnson Lumber Company in Riddle. Crews found a grass fire burning between two roads spreading at a moderate speed. Firefighters were able to stop the fire at about 1/4 of an acre of grass and brush. They remained on the scene until around 1:00 p.m. mopping up the fire. A preliminary investigation of the Pruner Road Fire indicated that it may be related to vehicle activity in the area.
Sunday morning at about 1:00 a.m. a natural cover fire was reported on Callahan Road, 10 miles west of Roseburg near the end of the pavement. Firefighters from Douglas County Fire District No. 2 contained the fire on two large trees. Crews from DFPA also responded and completed mop up operations. The cause of the Callahan Road Fire is still under investigation.
