Firefighters from the Douglas Forest Protective Association and the Oakland Rural Fire Department put out a fire burning along Interstate Five north of Oakland on Friday night.
Kyle Reed of the DFPA says crews found a fast moving fire burning through grass and brush near milepost 139 shortly after 6:00 p.m. An aggressive initial attack stopped the fire at about two and a half acres.
Kyle Reed says the Mile Post 139 Fire shows how quickly fire danger is increasing. Reed says that fires are happening more frequently, but are also burning hotter and faster than they did earlier in the summer.
Firefighters worked on the fire for about three hours. DFPA sent five engines to the fire while the Oakland Rural Fire Department brought in three additional engines.
The cause of the Milepost 139 Fire is currently under investigation.
