For the next few months, the Roseburg Police Department will be conducting speed enforcement patrols on streets affected by the Stewart Parkway construction closure.
Sergeant Gary Klopfenstein says the goal is to reduce speeding which will reduce speed related crashes, injuries and fatalities.
In 2014 there were 177 speed related crashes in Douglas County. Of those, 32 had serious injuries, and in some cases, fatalities.
Sergeant Gary Klopfenstein says the speed enforcement patrols are made possible by a grant from the Oregon Department of Transportation.
