The Mercy Foundation has awarded the Lance Michael Emmons Scholarship to three area students.
The scholarship is dedicated to those whose lives have been enriched by music. Lance’s family, Jim and Dotty Stapleton, Jeff Randall and Kelly Lowman, created this scholarship to help make a local student’s academic dreams possible in memory of Lance.
This year three high school seniors who are all continuing their education at universities majoring in music, were selected for the honor. They are:
*Wesley Becherer of Roseburg, awarded $4,000.
*Jordan Anderson of Glide, awarded $2,000.
*YuTong Chen of Canyonville, awarded $2,000.
The Lance Michael Emmons scholarship program was started in 2011 and has awarded 16 scholarships for an approximate total of $40,000 that has been given out.
Mercy Foundation President Lisa Platt says the families hope is that this scholarship will “encourage our youth to continue their passion for music throughout the rest of their life”. She says the family has dedicated themselves to celebrating Lance’s passion for music by helping others who feel that same passion, to achieve their academic goals through the scholarship.
