A Winchester Bay man is heading to prison after pleading guilty to criminally negligent homicide and other charges on May 22nd.
Deputy District Attorney Shannon Sullivan says that 26 year old Walker Kellogg appeared in front of Judge George Ambrosini in Douglas County Circuit Court on Tuesday. Kellogg was accused of hitting two people in an ATV accident on the dunes near Winchester Bay in September of last year.
A Washington State man, 27 year old Benjamin Wohl died at the scene and 30 year old Breauna Ellison of Clackamas suffered serious injuries. Reports said the pair was riding double on an ATV when they were struck by a second ATV that Kellogg was operating. Initial reports said that Kellogg and two people riding with him stopped briefly but then fled the scene. Kellogg was arrested three days later.
Shannon Sullivan says in addition to pleading guilty to criminally negligent homicide, Walker Kellogg also pled guilty to third degree assault, two counts of failure to perform the duties of a driver to injured persons, and initiating a false report. He was sentenced by Judge Ambrosini to 22 months in prison followed by 36 months of post prison supervision.
