A kitchen fire caused around $20,000 in damage to an east Roseburg home Tuesday afternoon.
Fire Chief Greg Timm of the Roseburg Fire Department says that at 4:40 p.m. a passerby saw smoke coming from the attic and roof area of a home in the 2100 block of Downey Avenue, near Ramp Road.
Firefighters arrived on the scene to find smoke showing from the rooftop of the structure. After making entry into the residence, firefighters quickly extinguished the fire. The homeowner was not home at the time of the fire. Firefighters rescued three dogs that were inside the house. The dogs were not injured.
Fire Chief Timm says the home sustained structural and water damage. The house is valued at $131,000. The fire was contained to the kitchen area of the structure.
Ten firefighters assisted with getting the fire out.
