Winston City Councilors could select a new member of their group at a meeting coming on Monday night. Longtime counselor Dick Hayes became the Mayor of Winston at the last council meeting. That followed the resignation of new mayor Kenneth Barrett, who had been arrested in March by Myrtle Creek Police on charges of online sexual corruption of a child.
Hayes move to Mayor left his Ward One seat open. That ward includes all the area west of Main Street and Old Highway 99 South. City Manager Mark Bauer told News Radio 1240 KQEN that four applications have been received for the seat so far, with the deadline to apply being Friday afternoon at 5:00 p.m.
Bauer says the council will interview the applicants Monday night and could either select one to become a councilor, or request that the City of Winston continue receiving applications until a later day in May. Bauer says a new councilor must be picked by the end of next month to meet the 60 day requirement.
The Winston City Council will meet Monday night at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.
