Fifth grade finalists from Roseburg Public Schools will compete for culinary honors Thursday when Joseph Lane Middle Schools hosts the third annual Future Chef cook-off in that school’s cafeteria.
A release from Roseburg Public Schools says that the event aims to education students about healthy eating habits. All Roseburg fifth graders were invited to submit recipes for their favorite healthy comfort food, with bonus points awarded for certain ingredients. Two recipes from each school were chosen for judging.
Finalists will have an hour for preparation and cooking. The entries will be judged on originality, ease of preparation, healthy attribute, plate presentation, taste, and for how “kid friendly” they are.
The district’s food services provider Sodexo is providing the food for the event. The cook off is being organized by the Nutrition Services staff of the Roseburg School District.
The Thursday event will begin at 5:00 p.m. and is open to the public.
