The lights are back on for people in the Yoncalla area.
Douglas Electric Cooperative crews spent part of Thursday dealing with the effects of a tree that came down following heavy rain and some wind. That tree took out a line, knocking out power to around 3,000 customers at around 8:30 a.m.
Within ninety minutes power had been restored to about 2,000 of those impacted. Crews went to work replacing a broken transmission pole that had to be set by hand. By around 12:00 p.m. only a small number of people in the immediate area were without power, Work on the pole was completed by mid-afternoon, fully restoring power.
Schools in the Yoncalla school district were without power during part of the day due to the outage, but classes remained in session. The Yoncalla Dining Site for Douglas County Senior Services was closed because of the outage but meals were delivered to seniors via the Sutherlin Dining Site.
