The Umpqua Strong Run/Walk is happening on Saturday in Roseburg and organizers are staying busy.
Friday is Packet Pick up Day where those taking part are encouraged to get their packet instead of dealing with doing it on Saturday morning. Packets though can be picked up from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Organizers are at Stewart Park until 6:00 p.m. where are also taking last minute registrations from those who want to be part of the event. Friday the sign up cost is $30 and includes a bib and a bracelet but not a shirt, though shirts can be ordered for an additional cost for future pick up. When on-line registration closed on Tuesday night nearly 2,000 people had signed up creating an event larger than any run/walk that has ever taken place in Roseburg.
As of 12:00 p.m. on Friday over $33,400 has been raised, surpassing the $30,000 goal. Proceeds will be given by Umpqua Strong to the Umpqua Community College Foundation in memory of the nine people who died last fall, and in recognition of those that survived.
Saturday’s schedule includes the run/walk at 10:00 a.m. with the kid’s races at 12:00 p.m. Awards will be announced at Legion Field at 12:30 p.m. The Tori Rose Band will play at 1:00 p.m. with a special speaker and a check presentation to UCC at 2:00 p.m. At 2:30 p.m. Sanctus Real will perform.
