The Bybee Fire is burning on the west side of Crater Lake National Park, along the Pacific Crest Trail.
That fire was discovered Thursday afternoon and by that evening was believed to be around 50 acres in size. The Pacific Crest Trail is closed in the area for public safety. Crater Lake National Park remains open to visitors and the special performances Friday and Saturday from the Britt Orchestra and other groups are continuing as scheduled.
Officials say the fire is burning in dead and down timber with numerous spot fires. A Type 3 team assumed command of the fire at 12:00 p.m. Friday.
The cause of the Bybee Fire is under investigation.
