A Roseburg man is in jail on multiple charges after police say he tied to elude them while on a motorcycle late Sunday night.
A report from the Roseburg Police Department says that at around 11:00 pm. an officer saw a motorcycle going south on Stewart Parkway near the “S” curves without any lights on. The officer turned around and tried to stop the bike but the driver reportedly sped up and didn’t stop.
The officer lost sight of the motorcycle as it turned onto Harvey from Stewart Parkway. The bike was spotted later on Riverside but was gone by the time an officer could get to that location.
The motorcyclist was seen on Loma Vista near Troost, but the operator took off again when he saw the police. The cyclist sped up and the pursuit was terminated within a block. The officer continued in the direction the bike had been going and then saw the rider running on foot in the 1300 block of Troost. The man was detained and identified as Staley Hughes.
Hughes was charged with attempting to elude both in a vehicle and on foot, and for reckless driving. He is being held on $62,500 bail.
