Staff with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is getting ready for Free Fishing Weekend this Saturday and Sunday.
In Douglas County events will be held at four locations.
At Cooper Creek from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. a kiddie pond will be stocked with trout for kids up to eight years of age. Loaner rods and reels will be available, along with fly tying and casting lessons and a fish cleaning station. Kids who go through the education staff will get a ticket for raffle drawings. Free hot dogs and Pepsi will be available as well.
At Diamond Lake, a fishing derby for kids ages 17 and under is offered. Check-in begins at 6:00 a.m. at the resort’s Marina with activities running from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Door prizes and hot dogs will be offered.
Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Galesville Reservoir ODFW is stocking 500 legal-sized trout just prior to Free Fishing Weekend. Prizes, bait supplies, and help for first time anglers ages 16 and younger will be available. Free hot dogs will be given out.
Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Lake Marie near Winchester Bay, rods and reels will be available with help for kids that have not fished before. Kids can enter a casting contest and get a bounty for picking up litter. Hot dogs and soda will be free for kids with a nominal charge for adults.
Staff with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife says that county parking fees will be waived for Free Fishing Weekend.
