Roseburg Police have identified the victim in Thursday’s stabbing case.
Captain Jerry Matthews of RPD says officers responded to a home in the 1300 block of Southeast Sanford at about 1:20 p.m. following the report of a disturbance in which a male had been stabbed. Matthews says that upon arrival they found 42 year old Jason Brown in critical condition from apparent stab wounds. Brown was taken to Mercy Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.
Captain Matthews says the other man involved in the disturbance, 26 year old Craig McElmurry remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators.
The incident continues to be investigated by the Douglas County Major Crimes Team. That team includes investigators from the Roseburg Police, Douglas County Sheriff’s Department, Oregon State Police and the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office.
Captain Matthews says that preliminary information obtained by the investigators suggests that Brown and McElmurry were engaged in a mutual physical dispute at the time McElmurry stabbed Brown. No arrests have been made at this time. The incident remains under investigation and is expected to be reviewed by a Douglas County Grand Jury.
No further information has been released.
