An official with Oregon State Police says that Highway 38 six miles west of Drain was never closed Thursday afternoon.
An email to the media from the Oregon Department of Transportation went out just before 5:00 p.m. saying the road was closed at the request of OSP. About an hour later a second email went out saying the road had been reopened.
Lieutenant Steve Mitchell of the Roseburg office of OSP says that troopers were dealing with a possible explosive device in that area. The report of the device turned out to be unfounded according to Mitchell. He said they never did close the road.
